Get Trained Save Lives (GTSL)
The Get Trained Save Lives (GTSL) campaign has become one of the ERC’s most visible and impactful initiatives, harnessing the power of football to spread lifesaving skills across Europe.
In 2024, the campaign reached a major milestone with its presence at the UEFA European Football Championship in Germany. Across the tournament, 10 GTSL booths were set up in fan zones across all host cities, offering football fans and visitors hands-on CPR training. By bringing training directly to the public, we made lifesaving knowledge more tangible and approachable, ensuring that thousands of visitors left better prepared to act in the event of sudden cardiac arrest.
The campaign was supported by a broad communication strategy — from in-stadium promotions and television spots to dedicated social media campaigns and the Get-Trained.com platform. Together, these efforts amplified our message throughout Europe and beyond. By the end of the tournament, around 40,000 people had received CPR awareness training at the fan zones, and the campaign reached over 4 million people online.
The momentum continued in 2025 with the UEFA Women’s EURO in Switzerland. GTSL booths were present in all host cities — including Basel, Zurich, Bern, Lucerne, Thun, Sion, Geneva and St. Gallen — where over 7,100 people took part in CPR training. The visibility of the campaign during the Women’s EURO further strengthened the call for CPR education as a fundamental skill for all citizens.
To ensure this impact goes beyond major tournaments, the ERC also developed the “Go and Save a Life” (GOAL) course, which enables National Resuscitation Councils to deliver GTSL-style training in their own communities. To date, more than 224 GOAL courses have been delivered, extending the reach of the campaign far beyond football fan zones.
Looking ahead, the campaign is now expanding into the world of professional football clubs. In partnership with the European Club Association (ECA), the ERC is working to integrate CPR awareness and training directly into clubs across Europe. By training players, staff, and fans, this collaboration ensures that lifesaving skills are embedded at the very heart of European football culture and beyond.
Through initiatives like GTSL, the ERC continues to move closer to its vision of a Europe where every citizen has the confidence and skills to act in an emergency — because every trained bystander brings us one step closer to saving more lives.
