Mission Statement

Our Mission

At the core of our efforts lies a commitment ''to preserve human life by making high quality resuscitation available to all'.

To fulfil this mission, the ERC engages in a variety of initiatives and collaborative efforts.

Science

As a member of the International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation (ILCOR), ERC experts play an active role in shaping the global Consensus on Science and Treatment Recommendations (CoSTR). In addition, the ERC initiates and supports scientific studies focused on resuscitation, with the official journal of the ERC being ‘Resuscitation.’

Guidelines

Drawing upon the CoSTR, the ERC publishes the European Resuscitation Guidelines, which serve as the standard for resuscitation practices and training across Europe and beyond.

Training

A robust network comprising National Resuscitation Councils, Course Organisers, Course Directors, and Instructors delivers resuscitation training to lay rescuers and healthcare professionals. The ERC establishes the standards for high-quality training and certifies those who successfully complete its courses.

Congresses

The ERC hosts annual congresses that blend cutting-edge resuscitation science with practical training, providing opportunities to engage with international experts in the field.

Public Awareness

We believe that everyone has the ability to save a life. To promote this belief, the ERC organises the annual European Restart a Heart Day on October 16th, motivating both professionals and the public to undertake resuscitation training and to act confidently in emergencies.

The day is now celebrated worldwide as the World Restart a Heart Day by the ILCOR.

National Representation

The ERC is represented nationally through a network of various National Resuscitation Councils (NRCs), which oversee the implementation of guidelines, delivery of training, and quality control within their respective countries. Through these comprehensive efforts, we strive to make resuscitation knowledge and skills universal, ultimately saving lives.
