EMC

The Educator Master Class (EMC) trains selected Instructor Trainers or Medical Educators in the field of Resuscitation to become Educator Candidates. This 2-day course aims to prepare ERC certified professionals educational staff of the ERC to teach on the Generic Instructor Course (GIC). It includes the elements of adult learning, assessment, feedback and facilitating learning in all formats that are an integral part of ERC Provider courses. Important topics also covered during the EMC include dealing with the Course Director (CD) and faculty on a GIC, and quality management in the educational process of the ERC.

The EMC is organised and taught by senior educators of the ERC Educational Committee. Applicants for this course must submit:

  • a CV
  • a letter of motivation
  • a supporting letter from their NRC

EMC trainers select participants according to their:

  • professional qualification in health sciences (clinical background and experience in a relevant specialist field)
  • educational profile (postgraduate qualification in education or experience in adult healthcare education)
  • status of GIC trainer and ERC Associate Gold Membership

After completing the EMC successfully the Educator Candidate must take part as a faculty member in two GICs, under the guidance of and to the satisfaction of experienced Educators. An ERC Educator fulfils the following expectations:

  • Knowledge and practical application of adult learning principles
  • Familiarity with ERC teaching strategies and techniques
  • Expert communication skills (especially in the management of student behaviour and faculty support, with particular emphasis on competence in relational issues, effective feedback and presentation skills)
  • Competence in educational practice in managing teaching and learning (empathy, credibility, honesty, supportive attitude, individual and team orientated)
  • Ability to organise, motivate and lead groups of instructors focused on achieving course learning objectives, ability to be flexible in managing candidate, faculty or programme-related issues
