The European Paediatric Basic Life Support Course (EPBLS) is intended to provide training for anybody who is working with children and could be confronted with a child in (imminent) cardiac arrest (CA). Regular retraining is mandatory.
The Course lasts 4 to 6 hours. At the end of the EPBLS course one should be able to:
Assess a child who is not reacting
Start resuscitation of a child
Adequately perform chest compressions and rescue breaths
Safely operate an automated external defibrillator
Understand the specific situation of ‘sudden collapse’ and act accordingly
Support a choking child
Place a child in recovery position
Start resuscitation of an adult
