EPILS

EPILS aims to provide resuscitation training for all those healthcare providers who care for children, but are not usually members of a resuscitation team. Candidates are trained to recognise and manage critically ill children and children in cardiorespiratory arrest whilst awaiting the arrival of a resuscitation team (1 to 5 minutes) and to provide further support once the team arrives.

The course lasts 7 to 8 hours and includes:

  • Recognition of a critically ill child
  • Knowledge and skills in assessing and treating problems with the airway, breathing and circulation (including bag-mask ventilation)
  • Scenario-based training in management of critically ill children during the first few minutes
  • Basic life support
  • AED use
  • Treatment of choking

To join this course you must be a healthcare provider and should have an understanding of basic life support.
