We are proud to be a part of the Alliance for Workplace Awareness and Response to Emergencies (AWARE) and presenting here the "Creating Cardiac Awareness at Work" Event Report from January 13.
The event was hosted by MEP Andras Kulja, MD and organised with the Alliance for Workplace Awareness and Response to Emergencies (AWARE). The event focused on addressing critical gaps in workplace preparedness for sudden cardiac arrest (SCA).
Key Highlights:
- The 1989 EU Workplace Safety Directive is outdated, with significant gaps in AED access, CPR training, and harmonised policies across member states.
- Experts highlighted the need to increase & modernise CPR training and improve accessibility to automated external defibrillators (AEDs) in workplaces.
- Survivor testimony emphasised the importance of bystander resuscitation and the urgency of raising awareness.
Opportunities Ahead:
- Modernising the 1989 EU Workplace Safety Directive can set a global benchmark for workplace safety and reduce avoidable deaths.
- Collaboration among policymakers, health organisations, and industries is essential to drive lasting change.
Let’s take action to improve workplace safety and save lives.
